National Stroke Awareness Month

May is a busy month for senior adults since it’s both Older Americans Month and National Stroke Awareness Month. That makes it the perfect time for us to check in about two quick things.

First, a reminder that our team is here to assist you with any legal questions or needs you may have related to estate planning, medical directives, or wills and probate. Even if you anticipate those needs being years away, it’s never too early to start planning. Don’t hesitate to reach out.

Second, since 75% of strokes occur in adults 65 or older, we want to take this opportunity to remind you of the symptoms of a stroke.

You may know the acronym F.A.S.T. (facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulties, and time), but here are a few more signs to watch out for:

  • Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body
  • Confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • Trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause

If you or a loved one experience any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately. Time is of the essence during a stroke; the sooner care is received, the better the chance of recovery.

Take care, and as always, give us a call if we can help you or your loved ones in any way. That’s why we’re here.
